This project began through a referral from a family member for whom we had previously built an outdoor living space. When we first met the Dodd couple, their vision was simple: they wanted a place to relax outdoors, entertain friends, and enjoy everyday life with their dog Maya.
The property offered a generous open area behind the home, allowing us to organize each space with intention. The design began with the pool as the central element, creating a natural place for relaxation during the warm summer months.
Next to the pool we built a covered outdoor kitchen so meals could be prepared while staying connected with the activity around the patio. Behind this area we incorporated a bathroom and a storage room for pool equipment and summer essentials.
To extend the experience into the evening, we built a pavilion designed for gathering and comfort — incorporating sound, a grand gas fireplace, chandeliers, ceiling fans, and custom shelving with integrated outlets.
Just outside the pavilion, a gas fire pit creates another gathering space. Around the fire pit we built a circular masonry sitting wall so guests can gather comfortably and remain close to the warmth of the fire.
The landscape softens the environment with flower beds and a raised terrace where the couple can begin their mornings with coffee while overlooking the patio. Proper drainage was incorporated throughout, and a thoughtfully integrated lighting system allows the space to be safely enjoyed after sunset — highlighting walkways, architectural features, and gathering areas.
The result is a thoughtfully planned and built outdoor sanctuary where the Dodd couple can relax, host friends, and enjoy time outdoors with their dog Maya.
